Hobartians Drink To Jack’s Ride – Thanks!

by admin on September 2, 2008

September 1, 2008

A fantastic fundraiser was held in Hobart last Thursday night – organised by Emily (Jack’s cousin).

  • Some wonderful students from Fahan School volunteered as waitresses,
  • the handsome Cameron Clark of METZ (restaurant/bar on Sandy Bay Rd) donated stacks of fantastic food and
  • Aaron from Flippers, the legendary fish and chips punt at Constitution Dock, donated food and the use of his facilities to heat food up, etc.

It was great to catch up with so many old friends on the night – we appreciate everyone coming along and supporting this great cause.

$2,022 was raised on the night for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Australia.

Regards

Brendon

Okay, Okay Mrs Bres…..I’ll Say It!

by admin on August 12, 2008

August 12, 2008

One of my oldest mate’s has just given up a donation.

And he’s given it with the proviso that I publicly state that David Bresnehan (pictured right) is not only a champion bloke but also a champion football player who was struck down in his prime by injury.  Yep, that was the only reason he didn’t win 6 Brownlow Medals.

And no, his mum (Mrs Bres) doesn’t always say to me “I wish you were my son, Brendon.”

I make that story up just to annoy David.  David has a crane hire business in Melbourne.

There, I said!

But thanks to David and his $1,000 donation – fantastic stuff and a whole chunk of money to help make the lives of some children a little better.

His comment with the donation?

Skylift Crane Services is proud to support Jack and his sad old man Brendon on their courageous ride.”

That seems harsh doesn’t it Mrs Bres??!

Legendary Scout Bryan Sinclair, also known as Jack’s Uncle, has donated $200 on behalf of his team at Sinclairs Fitness. Thanks Burly.

Whilst I’m at it, the wonderful Chelsea, husband Mike and son Isaac handed over $50 of their hard earned. Thanks guys!

Cheers

Pride of Australia Nomination

by admin on August 5, 2008

August 5, 2008

A rather chuffed mum this morning when Mel opened up the Courier Mail (the state’s biggest newspaper) and saw an article on Jack because he’s been nominated for the Pride of Australia Award.

Terrific recognition for what he’s doing and some more excellent coverage of the ride and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Australia.

Ride Update

by admin on June 30, 2008

June 30, 2008

Ok, here’s the latest training update because a few people have asked us lots of questions about what we’re doing and how we go about it.

Saturday was an easy 100 km, 60 km being flat with a few easy hills at the end.

Sunday was a 140 km hilly ride up through Springbrook, down into Numinbah Valley, down through Chillingham to Tumbulgum, then home up Terranora Rd.

Jack still had enough left at the end to race up the final hills to home.

We had lunch at the 100 km mark – with our intake precisely controlled by mum (Mel) as to the best things to have. Once home we had massages, along with Recoverite and snacks.

This morning was an easy 50 km spin then some weights, followed by a massage (that massage was just for old man Brendon!).

Psychology & Eyes

Tomorrow is a fast 40 kms, followed by something we’re really looking forward to – a session with renowned Sports Psychologist Phil Jauncey.

In the afternoon we’re meeting with the folks from Oakley to look at sunglasses – we’ve searched long and hard for the best cycling sunglasses for the harsh Australian desert and Oakley’s fit the bill.

Jack was fitted on Thursday for another Trek Madone by Roger from Palm Beach Supercycle. As well as being a fantastic sponsor, Roger also came 8th in his age group at the recent World BMX Championships in China! (Roger makes me tell everyone that!)

Jack Sinclair gets fitted for bike

Roger used to be the Head Bike Mechanic for the Australian Triathlon Team and knows more about bike set up than just about anyone – with the addition of aero-bars to jack’s bike, Roger took an hour to re-set Jack up on a 56 cm Trek Madone 4.5.

Jack’s ride seems to have created a fair bit of public interest and he’s had another interview today with a photo session.

Trivia Night Nets Not So Trivial Amount

And thanks so much to everyone who turned up for the trivia night – we raised another $750 for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Australia.

Great stuff!

Oooops….I’ve Made A Terrible Mistake!

by admin on June 23, 2008

June 23, 2008

Hi, Brendon here.

Over the years I may have made a couple of mother-in-law jokes….just the 2 I think ;o)

Well, today I’d like to apologise for those jokes and eat my words!

The lovely, beautiful and wonderful Gwen Cracknell (Jack’s Gran, my mother-in-law) has just deposited $500 with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Australia for the ride.

Gwen’s been fundraising vigorously with her friends in Tasmania through luncheons, craft days and more.

Thanks Gwen!
